Internet & Cellular Providers Claim to Protect Customers During Pandemic

Due to COVID-19 and the impact it will have on consumers financially, multiple businesses, banks and corporations have announced measures to help those impacted the most. Internet and cellular providers have announced measures to help their customers who are being impacted by this pandemic.

AT&T is suspending the termination of wireless, home phone or broadband service when customers can’t pay their bills because of the coronavirus. They are also waiving related late fees and providing free access to public WiFi hot spots.

Verizon has said that it is waiving late fees and suspending service termination for customers. Verizon today signed onto the FCC’s new “Keep Americans Connected” pledge. Verizon’s new customer commitment will help ensure connectivity and offer assistance to customers and small businesses facing challenges from the global crisis.

Sprint is offering unlimited data for 60 days for customers on metered plans. They will also provide customers an additional 20 GB per month of mobile hot spot use.

T-Mobile is also adding network capacity and adding free unlimited data use. They’re also adding 5 GB of extra data per month to Lifeline users. They will add an additional 20 GB of data to mobile hotspot users as well.

Comcast is offering free access to its Xfinity Wifi hot spots for everyone, including non-subscribers, for 60 days. It is also providing unlimited data to its customers for no extra charge and is not disconnecting internet service or charging late fees for customers who can’t pay their bills.

Spectrum will similarly suspend late fees and service termination for those impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Spectrum does not have data limits for customers, according their website.

There are other internet and cellular providers who have announced measures to help their customers. Some haven’t yet announced plans or laid out direct plans to help.
