Evictions Put On Hold Due to Pandemic


The Department of Housing and Urban Development announced that it is suspending all evictions and foreclosures until the end of April. The Federal Housing Finance Agency directed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to do the same of a minimum of 60 days.

The National Multifamily Housing Council put out a release asking apartment owners and landlords to halt evictions for renters who have experienced a job loss or reduction in income due to COVID-19.

An order from North Carolina Chief Justice Cheri Beasley on March 13th paused all eviction and foreclosure cases for 30 days. Representative Alma Adams has asked for a 90-day hold on evictions, foreclosures and utility shut-offs.

Multiple other states have announced measures to help those being impacted by this pandemic. South Carolina and Virginia have both paused or suspended all new eviction proceedings. Georgia and Florida have not announced any measures yet, but other states have announced that they will suspend evictions for 30-90 days.
