Due to COVID-19 and the impact it will have on consumers financially, businesses, banks and corporations have announced measures to help those impacted the most. Among those laying out plans to help customers are energy companies and individual North Carolina counties.

Wake and Orange Counties have announced that they won’t disconnect customer’s water during the pandemic.

Duke Energy has announced that they are suspending disconnections for non-payments due to COVID-19. Allowing customers to keep their power on, even if they are behind on payments. They also said they urge people to pay what they can.

Piedmont Gas has also announced that they will be suspending disconnections for non-payments during the pandemic.

Dominion Energy has suspended disconnections for non-payment as well. They also announced that they will be restoring services that had been recently shut off. Dominion Energy also announced that they will continue to respond to emergencies during this pandemic.

American Electric Power and their sister company, Appalachian Power, have also announced that they will be suspending disconnections for non-payments due to COVID-19.

Brunswick Electric has announced they will suspend disconnections for prepaid accounts. They are encouraging customers to be responsible when using power and purchase power as they can to avoid a negative balance.

These are among the many energy companies who have announced that they will be protecting their customers during this difficult time. Other companies have announced that they plan to help, but haven’t laid out a direct plan right yet.
